A brief overview of the history of diplomatic relations

between Jordan and the Russian Federation

Diplomatic relations between, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and The Russian Federation, were established on August 21st, 1963 based on friendship, cooperation and mutual respect. The Two countries were keen on establishing an exemplary bilateral relation. The Soviet Union, then, placed great importance on its relations with Jordan, due to its significant influence and role in regional and global stability, as well as the its moderate approach to regional and international politics. In his autobiography, the late Prime Minister of Soviet Union, Mr. Evgeni Primakov, described His late Majesty King Hussein Bin Talal, may he rest in Peace, as a great World leader, and spoke highly of his friendship with His late Majesty.

There are historic relations between Jordan and the Russian Federation, based on strategic partnership. Russia also plays an important role in contributing to finding political solutions for issues of the region in order to restore peace and stability in the region.

The Jordanian Government welcomes and appreciates the Russian Federation’s positive and constructive role and position, which continues to emphasize the need to resolve and The Palestinian Israeli conflict based on international legitimacy and the “Two-State” Solution and establishing an independent State for Palestine on Palestinian Soil with East Jerusalem as its Capital.

The Jordanian-Russian intergovernmental committee meets biannually to establish dialogue on the enhancement of cooperation between the two countries in agriculture, transport, energy and tourism. Russia hosted and continues to host an increasing numbers of Jordanian students who receive their education in Russian universities, become qualified professionals and work for the development of their country.

Jordanian-Russian relations will remain solid and strong, as the leaders of the two countries believe in this partnership and its strategic importance as a guarantor for a solid foundation for the stability and security and eventually the development of the Middle East region as a whole.
